Explores the documentation of conflict in the Middle East through film: the partition of Israel and Palestine in 1948; the wars of independence in the 1950s and 1960s; the Iranian Revolution in 1979; the intifadas in Israel and Palestine; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; the more recent upheavals in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, and Syria; and the propagandistic filmmaking of al-Qaeda and ISIS. Looks at documentary film making, motion pictures and feature films that interpret conflict through a storytelling lens. Includes a weekly film screening "lab" and a discussion section.
