A New York film critic travels home to North Carolina as his cousin plans to uproot and move Midway plantation, which had been for many years one of the most celebrated homes in the Raleigh, NC area -- an antebellum mansion that stood as a reminder of the style and traditions of the old South. To his surprise, the move uncovers an African-American branch of the family from Midway's slave-owning past.

Moving Midway offers a look at the nuts and bolts of moving a piece of North Carolina history, as well as the people whose lives are rooted in its past, and includes extensive interviews with Robert Hinton, Associate Director of African-American studies at New York University, whose family has roots in Midway.

About the 2014 Ethics Film Series: "The South - Navigating the Past, Carving out a Future"
"The past isn't dead; it isn't even past," William Faulkner once famously quipped. This year's Ethics Film Series turns an eye inward, straddling the historical and contemporary to examine the space and place we inhabit every day: the American South.
