Screen/Society--AMI Showcase--AMI+MFAEDA present a Durham Cinematheque screening: "FILMISTORY.3" with filmmaker Tom Whiteside!

AMI + MFAEDA present a multi-projector Durham Cinematheque screening:

FILMISTORY.3
(Tom Whiteside, 2012, 16mm x 3, 55 minutes)

-- Presented by filmmaker Tom Whiteside (Q&A to follow)

This multi-projector, three screen film program is a rambunctious romp with spectacle and mystery and an unusual take on film history. Although it is about history the films are not shown in chronological order. Everything is "past." Subjects include a runaway horse, Queen Victoria's funeral, a review of American presidents, two English cathedrals, and a recital by Paderewski. The program includes more than 20 films over 100 years old (Blackton, Lumiere, Edison, Zecca, Melies, Porter) and an extended riff on the Odessa Steps sequence from Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin.

-- This is a slightly updated version of FILMISTORY.2 which screened at the Strange Beauty Film Festival in February 2012.

Cost: Free and Open to the Public!

Sponsors: The Program in the Arts of the Moving Image (AMI) and the Master of Fine Arts in Experimental and Documentary Arts (MFA | EDA).
