Film Screening:

Incendies
(Denis Villeneuve, 2010, 130 min, Canada, in French, Arabic, and English w/ English subtitles. Color, 35mm)

Based on Wajdi Mouawad's stage play, Incendies, and adapted by the award-winning director Denis Villeneuve and Valerie Beaugrand-Champagne, this film tells the story of twins Jeanne and Simon Marwan, who journey to the Middle East to fulfill their mother's last wishes. The journey leads them to the discovery of their mother's past during the 1970s Lebanese Civil War, a father thought to be dead, and an unknown brother. It is an emotional journey that tests their strength, courage, and understanding.

"Blessed with the help of a strong cast, the country’s best cinematographer (Andre Turpin) and his own leaned-out screenplay, Villeneuve has crafted a work of searing intensity, terrible beauty and great emotional power."
