-- Introduced by Prof. Markos Hadjioannou, Program in Literature

Presented in one of the rare screenings in the Research Triangle in its intended 3D format, Wim Wenders's Pina will conclude our Thinking Cinematics series on 3D cinema aesthetics, by offering a masterful example of the unique artistic potentials of this new technology. Not simply a magnificent work from one of the most prolific European filmmakers, Wim Wenders, Pina is essentially a film for and about the greatly influential German dancer and choreographer: Pina Bausch. Indeed, the film is an extraordinary and unique moment in film history, capturing the aesthetic language and cinematic experience associated with the documentary, experimental, and art traditions in cinema, as well as dance, theater, and music - all brought together within Wenders's revolutionary use of digital 3D.

-- The screening of Pina will take place in the WRAL 3D Theater (aka "the Auditorium"), in the main building of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, at:
11 West Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 (Museum phone: 919-707-9800)
