Bachelor of Arts, Visual & Media Studies: Cinematic Arts Concentration
This concentration allows students to engage deeply in a range of approaches within film studies, moving image history, theory, and practices. Areas of study include film practice, film studies, and screenwriting.
Requirements:
- 13 courses
- Gateway: Intro to Visual Culture of Intro to Film Studies
- Theory: Theories of Visual and Media Studies or Film Theory or Media Theory
- Cinematic Arts capstone
- Four practice courses from a list of approved Cinematic Arts courses
- Two film studies courses from a list of approved Cinematic Arts courses
- Four electives with a VMS cross-listing (Other courses require DUS approval.)
Cinematic Arts Minor
The Cinematic Arts Minor requires the successful completion of five courses with a Cinematic Arts concentration at the 200 level or above.

The Master of Fine Arts in Experimental & Documentary Arts (MFA/EDA) at Duke University brings together the documentary approach and experimental production in analog, digital, and computational media.
